P.J. Muntendam set of armchairs for gebroeders Jonkers, 1960's
Paul J. Muntendam was a furniture designer, interior architect and goldsmith in Haarlem and designed these rattan armchairs in 1960 for Jacob and Johan Jonkers.
Jacob and Johan Jonkers had a furniture factory in Noordwolde Friesland, The Netherlands which was called 'Gebroeders Jonkers' (Jonkers Brothers).
This company was mainly concerned with producing rattan furniture.
Also 'Wim den Boom' and 'Dirk van Sliedregt' designed furniture for the 'Gebr. Jonkers'.
This particular set is in excellent condition. Often there is damage to the cane backs. Thes backs are good and strong and ready for using.
There is a slight difference between the seats. Last two pictures will show that one seat is a bit thicker than the other. I assume that this seat has been re-upholstered at some point in the past 65 years. They have tried to keep the differences minimal as best they can. They have succeeded because it is not immediately noticeable. Rubber webbing under seat has also been renewed.
If you are looking for an impeccable set, this is the one to go for.
